By: QIN 2 hours ago

Silicon Motion today (March 13th) launched the SM8008, a PCIe Gen5 SSD controller chip designed specifically for data center boot drives, making it the industry's first product of its kind.

This controller uses TSMC's 6nm process, has a power consumption of less than 5W, sequential read/write speeds of up to 14GB/s, 4K random read/write speeds of up to 2.3 million IOPS, supports NAND interface speeds up to 3600MT/s, complies with the NVMe 2.0a protocol and the OCP ultra-large-scale NVMe bootable SSD 1.0 specification, and is suitable for various form factors including M.2, U.2, E1.S, and E3.S, flexibly meeting the deployment needs of different server architectures. Currently, ATP and Exascend have integrated the SM8008 into their next-generation enterprise-class SSD platforms.
