2nm Yield Rises to 80%, Capacity Fully Booked Ahead of Trial Operation

According to Korean media reports, driven by large-scale orders from U.S. big techs such as Tesla and Broadcom, Samsung Taylor foundry plant in Texas, U.S., which will begin trial operations as early as the end of this month, has already reached 'full capacity' with its scheduled production volume fully booked as 2nm orders continue to roll in.

The 2nm yield (the ratio of non-defective products), which was at the 60% level early this year, is known to have recently reached the 80% range capable of mass production. It is said that the Taylor plant will begin mass production next year. The initial production capacity is 50,000 wafers per month based on wafer input, which is close to Taiwan’s TSMC (80,000 wafers).

Plant 2 Accelerates Preparations, Target Mass Production in 2030

Preparations for the Taylor Plant 2, which is scheduled to break ground at the end of this year with the goal of mass production in 2030, are also accelerating. It is said that Samsung Electronics recently requested major partners to obtain safety certification in advance for the semiconductor production equipment to be introduced to Plant 2. It is also reported that some partners are pushing forward with a plan to dispatch dozens of personnel to the site for the construction of the Taylor Plant 2.
