According to South Korean media, The Elec, when recently asked whether the company is considering building a semiconductor plant in Japan, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won replied that they are currently evaluating the matter and will make an announcement after discussions are concluded. It is reported that Miyagi Prefecture has proposed a site of approximately 300,000 square meters within the Second Sendai Northern Core Industrial Park in Ōhira Village as a potential location for the SK hynix factory. Kanto, Hokkaido, and Kyushu regions have also been mentioned as possible candidates for SK hynix's production base in Japan. SK hynix stated that it is considering investing in a semiconductor plant in Japan and is assessing various possibilities, but no decisions have been made yet. The company noted that Chairman Chey did not mention establishing a joint venture factory, specific products to be manufactured, or a concrete investment location.
