Western Digital announced the formal simplification of its corporate name from "Western Digital" to "WD," along with the launch of a new brand identity. The rebranding not only signifies the near completion of the spin-off transition between Western Digital and SanDisk but also marks the company's accelerated push toward innovation and long-term customer partnerships. WD also unveiled its latest hard drive technology and product roadmap, outlining HDD development plans from short-term to long-term . The company clarified that ePMR and HAMR technologies will coexist in the coming years. WD plans to launch a 40TB UltraSMR HDD based on ePMR technology in the second half of this year. It aims to complete HAMR customer qualification and commence mass production by 2027, along with plans of introducing a 100TB HAMR HDD by 2029.
