Samsung Unveils Massive 2,655 Trillion Won Domestic Investment Plan

By: M 1 day ago

According to South Korean media, Samsung Electronics has unveiled details of its group-level domestic investment blueprint valued at KRW 2,655 trillion. The plan centers on expanding nationwide production hubs, with priority development of AI semiconductors, robotics, batteries, plus IT components and materials.

Samsung will commit KRW 2,030 trillion to build out semiconductor industrial clusters including the Pyeongtaek Complex and Yongin National Industrial Complex. An additional KRW 625 trillion will be injected into the Honam, Chungcheong and Yeongnam regions to advance AI semiconductors, robotics, batteries, IT components and materials.

Honam Region: KRW 425 Trillion for Semiconductor and AI Infrastructure

To address surging global semiconductor demand via local capacity expansion, Samsung plans total Honam investment of KRW 425 trillion, with KRW 400 trillion earmarked for semiconductor operations. The regional portfolio also covers AI data centers and clean energy projects.
Gwangju: Samsung Electronics will build a new semiconductor fab alongside a digital twin-powered innovation center.
Haenam (South Jeolla Province): Samsung SDS will construct an AI data center on Sorasido, Haenam. The site will underpin Samsung’s proprietary domestic AI strategy, which prioritizes homegrown AI infrastructure to cut reliance on overseas big tech vendors.
Gochang (North Jeolla Province): Samsung Electronics will set up a global logistics hub in Gochang.
Separately, Samsung C&T is developing solar power stations, nuclear green hydrogen production facilities and a green hydrogen R&D & demonstration complex across Honam.

Chungcheong Region: KRW 140 Trillion Focused on HBM, Next-Gen Displays and Batteries

Samsung Electronics will invest KRW 140 trillion in Chungcheong, strategically focusing on high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and advanced component manufacturing ecosystems.
Cheonan & Onyang: HBM wafer fabs will be constructed in both locations.
Asan: Samsung Display is building a production campus for next-gen smartphone panels, including foldable displays and ultra-high-resolution microdisplays. Microdisplays serve as compact high-definition panels for XR hardware spanning AR, VR and MR.
Cheonan: Samsung SDI is erecting a global mother factory for next-generation batteries.
Sejong: Samsung Electro-Mechanics will launch a dedicated production line of AI server packaging substrates.

Yeongnam Region: KRW 60 Trillion to Accelerate Manufacturing Upgrade with AI & Robotics

Samsung will pour KRW 60 trillion into Yeongnam to upgrade legacy manufacturing into high-tech operations by embedding AI Transformation (AX) and Robotics Transformation (RX) across core production workflows.
Gumi: Samsung Electronics is building a mother factory to act as a global smartphone manufacturing innovation hub, fitted with large-scale production lines for factory-floor industrial AI and humanoid robots. Samsung SDS will also deploy an AI data center in Gumi.
Busan: Samsung Electro-Mechanics will roll out production lines for MLCCs and state-of-the-art AI packaging substrates.
Ulsan: Samsung SDI will scale up investments in next-gen solid-state batteries and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Geoje: Samsung Heavy Industries will establish a shipbuilding complex focused on manufacturing high-value vessels.
