YMTC Wins 3D NAND Patent Battle in Germany; Micron-Related Infringing Products Banned from Sale

On September 18 (local time), the 7th Civil Chamber of the Munich I Regional Court in Germany issued rulings on two cases in YMTC’s series of patent infringement lawsuits against Micron. The court found that Micron had infringed two German utility model rights held by YMTC and granted injunctions ordering Micron to cease selling the relevant infringing products in Germany. This marks YMTC’s first substantial injunction victory worldwide since the comprehensive patent battle between the two companies erupted in November 2023.

The two German utility models involved in the rulings are:

DE202020006166U1, titled “Staircase Structure of Three-Dimensional Memory Devices” (Case No. 7 O 12615/25);

DE202021004551U1, titled “Barrier Layers for Word Line Contacts in Three-Dimensional NAND Memory” (Case No. 7 O 12614/25).
