A Few Orders Support Price Increases of LPDDR4X, Some OEM SSDs and Memory Modules; As Spring Festival Approaches, Overall Market Transaction Remains Sluggish

By: AWU 1 day ago

At the beginning of February, as Spring Festival holiday approaches, the market is generally in the pre-holiday phase of inventory settlement and winding down. Some factories have already closed for holiday and entered "holiday mode". With only a few transactions for certain products, overall market remains sluggish. Embedded LPDDR4X, some OEM SSDs and memory modules have maintained price increases during this week, while prices of other products have stabilized.

Recently, as traders and small memory manufacturers sought to recoup funds before Spring Festival, prices of certain high-grade DDR4 and DDR5 chips, which had risen too rapidly and increasingly deviated from reasonable market ranges, have shown signs of softening—primarily due to short-term individual trading behaviors. In contrast, spot trade prices for NAND flash continue to surge and repeatedly record high. Although current high memory prices have suppressed stocking demand across various application markets to varying degrees, the significant price increases in raw materials over recent months have driven production costs sharply higher, establishing a "red line" for memory manufacturers. As a result, finished product shows more rigidity in price, which are prone to increase but difficult to decrease. Meanwhile, upstream NAND resource prices still show no signs of stopping upward trend. Overall, memory manufacturers are focusing more on cost control and cautious order acceptance.

Regarding upstream resources, quotes for Flash Wafer, DDR4, and DDR5 chips remained flat this week.

With less than two weeks remaining until the Spring Festival holiday, many factories and channel traders have gradually begun closing operations and starting their journeys going home. Aside from channel NAND resource trade prices, which continue to rise unabated, overall prices for finished products have shown little change. Some channel manufacturers have strengthened inventory control or even halted shipments, leading to a slowdown in market transaction.

Recently, due to orders released by industrial automation customers, demand remains support to some extend, driving continuous price increases for OEM SATA SSDs. Most manufacturers in the sector are strictly controlling order acceptance. Additionally, specific project requirements have led to a few stocking demand from some non-core clients, driving price increase of OEM 8GB DDR4 modules.

Although most memory manufacturers have already raised price of LPDDR4X ASP above $1.00, effect of continuous price increases from upstream resources have fueled strong expectations for further increases after Chinese New Year and during March. This week, LPDDR4X product prices all slightly adjusted upwards, with a small number of orders completed. In the embedded NAND segment, as Spring Festival approaches, customer shipments have gradually slowed down and inquiries have been relatively sparse, resulting in overall moderate market demand. Nevertheless, memory manufacturers are generally not eager to put forward order negotiations. Prices for embedded eMMC and UFS products consolidated at a high level in this week.
