On February 5, 2026, Intel CEO Chen Liwu, while attending the Cisco AI Summit in San Francisco, confirmed to Reuters the company's major strategic move in the GPU field—to continue developing data center-grade GPUs, focusing on the data center market dominated by Nvidia.

To ensure the implementation of this strategy, Chen Liwu personally recruited Eric Demers, former Senior Vice President of Qualcomm, to become Intel's new Chief GPU Architect. Public information confirms that Eric Demers officially joined the company last month and will report directly to Kevork Kechichian, Intel's head of data center chips. Eric Demers has extensive experience in the GPU field, having led the design of Qualcomm's Adreno GPU series for nearly 14 years and previously served as Chief Technology Officer of AMD's graphics division. He possesses top-tier GPU architecture design capabilities, and his addition will significantly strengthen Intel's GPU team. This personnel change also signifies that Intel's next-generation GPU strategy will break through the limitations of consumer-grade graphics cards, focusing on the commercial applications of AI computing and high-performance computing.

In addition to the GPU strategy, Chen Liwu also discussed the progress of Intel's foundry business, revealing that several customers have been in deep discussions with the company, with their core interest focused on the advanced Intel 14A process technology. This process is expected to start mass production ramp-up later this year, and the company is planning its production capacity according to customer demand.
