SK Hynix launches its first 1-cell LPDDR6 memory, offering 33% faster processing speeds

On March 10th, SK Hynix announced the successful development of a 16Gb LPDDR6 DRAM memory product based on its sixth-generation 10nm-class (1c) process. This product is precisely designed for smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices, providing a crucial storage solution for edge AI applications.

This LPDDR6 memory product was first unveiled at CES 2026 in January. After two months of technical verification, SK Hynix has completed the development and verification of the world's first 1c process LPDDR6, officially entering the mass production preparation stage. It plans to complete all mass production preparations in the first half of 2026 and begin mass production shipments in the second half of the year.

In terms of performance, the product offers a 33% improvement in data processing speed compared to the previous generation LPDDR5X, with a basic operating speed exceeding 10.7Gbps, efficiently supporting the real-time inference and multi-tasking needs of edge AI. Regarding power consumption, through the application of sub-channel structure and DVFS (Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling) technology, power consumption is reduced by more than 20% compared to LPDDR5X. The sub-channel structure selectively activates necessary data paths, while DVFS dynamically adjusts voltage and frequency based on the chip's operating environment. This ensures bandwidth in high-performance scenarios and saves power during daily use, effectively extending the battery life of mobile devices.

As JEDEC's next-generation low-power memory standard, LPDDR6's dual-sub-channel architecture and dynamic energy efficiency management perfectly meet the core requirements of edge AI for high-performance, low-power storage. SK Hynix's newly launched 1c process LPDDR6 will provide mobile device manufacturers with more competitive storage solutions, helping terminal products enhance AI experiences and driving the consumer electronics industry towards AI-driven and high-efficiency transformation.
