According to Japanese media reports, TSMC has officially finalized a plan to mass-produce 3nm advanced semiconductors in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, which will be the first-ever domestic production capability for 3-nanometer process technology in Japan. TSMC originally planned to produce 6-12nm chips at its second Kumamoto factory. However, in response to increasing market demand and strong support from the Japanese government, TSMC has decided to directly introduce the currently most advanced 3nm process. It is reported that as TSMC plans to upgrade its production process to 3nm, the total investment will also increase to $17 billion. Japanese government is considering providing additional support for the new investment plan, and TSMC will discuss the modifications of the plan with the Japanese government.
