Jensen Huang told DRAM manufacturers: Nvidia will use as much capacity as they expand

By: QIN 5 days ago

Recently, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang sent a clear signal to DRAM manufacturers at the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference. He stated that the chip supply shortage is "excellent news" for Nvidia, and bluntly told storage manufacturers, "We will use up whatever capacity is added."

Huang explained that the current environment of limited land, electricity, and building resources in data center construction makes customers more cautious in their purchasing decisions and more inclined to choose the most powerful AI solutions from the outset. This trend is particularly evident in the memory sector.

This statement means that even if DRAM prices continue to rise due to supply shortages, Nvidia will maintain or even expand its purchasing efforts and will not reduce its inventory due to cost pressures. This not only provides strong support for the prosperity of the storage industry but also gives leading manufacturers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron clear visibility into demand.

Industry insiders generally believe that Huang's confidence in "accepting all the demands" stems from the huge demand for storage resources from Nvidia's upcoming next-generation Vera Rubin AI platform. While the platform maintains the HBM capacity at 288GB, the specifications will be upgraded from HBM3E to HBM4. HBM4 adopts a 16-layer stacking design, which is more complex than the 12-layer stacking of HBM3E. Naturally, the capacity loss rate will increase accordingly, and the storage resources consumed per unit output will be much larger.
