Chinese government Reportedly Plans to Allow Limited Purchase of H200 by Some AI Companies

According to foreign reports citing people familiar with the matter, Alibaba ByteDance, and DeepSeek have been informed that they would soon be allowed to buy H200 chips. It is said that companies receiving approval would be allowed to use H200 chips only for AI training and processing public data. For inference workloads, enterprises are expected to prioritize domestic processors. Even with policy adjustments, the government is expected to impose strict limits on procurement volumes, as the total number of approved H200 chips is projected to be no more than 200,000, less than half of the amount companies applied for earlier this year.
