The company's management stated that the growth was primarily driven by the continued expansion of its technology platform. The wafer starts for its 22nm platform are expected to accelerate, while other new solutions are also gaining adoption from customers. Wafer demand is expected to remain stable in the first quarter of 2026, with wafer shipments and average selling prices roughly flat compared to the previous quarter. Capacity utilization is projected to remain between 74% and 76%, and gross margin is expected to be between 27% and 29%.
Despite the semiconductor industry still being in a cyclical adjustment phase, UMC remains confident in its ability to resume growth in 2026, thanks to its technological advantages in specialized processes and stable production capacity.
